यस्य स्मरेण मात्रेण ह्रतं नष्टं च लभ्यते।।
The Composition of Sudarshana Chakra
The Sudarshan Chakra has twelve spokes and six navels.
Its center is composed of “Vajra.”
It is said that the words “Om Sahasrara hum phat” (सहस्रात् हुं फट्) are inscribed on each of its spokes.
The twelve spokes of Sudarshan Chakra are believed to represent the twelve months of the Hindu Lunar calendar as well as the twelve deities (Som, Indra, Varun, Vayu, Agni, Vij, Mitra, Indragni, Prajapati, etc.). The six navels represent the six seasons.

Story Behind Sudarshana Chakra Mantra
In ancient times, there was a Brahmin named ‘Vetamanyu’. He was a Vedic aficionado. He was married to a virtuous woman named ‘Atreyi.’ They were often referred to as ‘Dharmashila.’ ‘Upamanyu,’ the son of this Brahmin couple, was born. The family was poor when I was growing up. Dharamshila couldn’t even give her son milk. The child had never tasted milk before. Dharamshila used to feed him rice milk as a substitute for milk.
One day the sage Vetamanyu went to a party with his son somewhere. Upamanyu ate a milk pudding made of milk, then he came to know the real taste of milk. On coming home, he refused to drink the rice dish. To get milk, his mother Dharmasheela said to the boy stubbornly, “Son, if you want to drink milk more affluent and flavored than what, then serve Virupaksha Mahadev.” By His grace, nectar can also be obtained. Upamanyu asked his mother- Mother, who are the deformed women you are asking to serve and worship?
Dharamshila told her son that, in ancient times, there was a great Asura Raj, known as Sridama. He subdued the whole world and subdued Lakshmi as well. All three people became insensible due to his fame and glory. His values had increased so much that he started making plans to take away the Shreevats of Lord Vishnu. Knowing the corrupt spirit of that great power demon, Lord Vishnu Maheshwar went to Shiva with the desire to kill him.
At that time Maheshwar was yogic on the high peak of the Himalayas. Then Lord Vishnu went to Jagannath and stood on the toe for many years and worshiped Parabrahma. Pleased with Lord Vishnu’s rigorous practice thus, Lord Shiva bestowed upon him the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’.
He said to Lord Vishnu while giving Sudarshan Chakra – Devesh! This superior armament named Sudarshan, with twelve arrows, six novels, and two yugas is fast-moving and destroys all armaments. To protect the gentlemen, its arrows have twelve months ranging from gods, zodiacs, seasons, Agni, Soma, Mitra, Varuna, Shachipati Indra, Vishwadeva, Prajapati, Hanuman, Dhanvantari, Tapa, and Chaitra to Falgun. Take the fear of it and kill the enemies fearlessly. Then Lord Vishnu defeated and killed Asura Sridama in battle with that Sudarshan Chakra.
